Maricopa County Forensic Science Center

Crime Lab Design programmed this state-of-the-art Forensic Science Center for a staff of 114, giving careful attention to merging complex engineered building systems with sensitive laboratory equipment, and achieving a functional and efficient public building.

CLD designed the facility to meet ASCLD standards for forensic facilities and NAME certification. Features include: efficient handling and storage of the deceased; areas for law enforcement personnel to observe autopsies; DNA and trace evidence, pathology, toxicology, histology, and forensic labs; autopsy suites and special procedures/decomposition suites.

Special features include proper design of access and security systems so the facility can operate in conjunction with a major parking structure. Being located in a highly populated downtown location required careful design of the ventilation systems for proper odor control outside the facility. We planned and designed a BSL3 autopsy suite which was taken out of the project prior to construction due to budget constraints.
