Phoenix Police Department

This new forensic laboratory is located in downtown Phoenix across from the Police Department and adjacent to the Maricopa County Medical Examiner. The three-story building is arranged with an office wing and laboratory wing on each floor that create “neighborhoods”. Functions housed in the building include: latent prints, forensic biology, trace evidence, controlled substances, toxicology, crime scene response and triage, firearms, vehicle processing, questioned documents, evidence processing and administration.

Laboratory spaces are designed to take full advantage of natural daylight and incorporate flexible, moveable laboratory casework systems.  Highly energy efficient lighting, ventilation and utility systems support the technical operations and are configured to be easily adapted as technology and science evolves.This facility is a powerful tool to help the on-going efforts of the Phoenix Police Department’s 140 staff housed in this building to impact crime and make Phoenix the safest major city in the nation.The facility meets ASCLD/LAB and ISO/IEC17025 design guidelines for accreditation and has won Southwest Contractor’s Arizona Best Mechanical Project of 2007 Award.
